Pilates Rehabilitation

Joseph Pilates recognized that core body strength is the foundation of all movement. He
developed over 500 exercises that can be used to develop individualized exercise programs.

Chronic back pain has been successfully treated by developing the core muscles including the
diaphragm, transverse abdominus, multifidus, and pelvic floor muscles. These muscles
surround and support the spine, providing the body it's "natural" back brace. Atrophy of these
muscles can lead to a variety of musculoskeletal disorders.   Athletes have found that core
strengthening and stabilization improves their level of performance.
